 What is microblading?

Microblading is a manual process of drawing eyebrows hairs to enhance brow volume and shape. The brows are measured according to the client's facial structure and the golden intersection (phi 1.618). Pigment is drawn into the skin using sterilized single-use implements. All clients’ results will vary. The use of makeup such as a brow pencil or powder may still be needed. This is not a “no maintenance” treatment but a “low maintenance” one.

How does the process of microblading work?

First, the consultation requires a specific measuring technique to ensure that the client's eyebrows are enhanced according to individual facial structure. The client's eyebrows are drawn on and the client will provide feedback on how he or she would like adjust the brow shaping. Second, the client's skin will be disinfected before the microblading begins. Third, pigment is custom mixed to match the clients complexion and hair color. A topical anesthetic is applied to the skin to minimize discomfort. Pain sensitivity can differ from person to person so this procedure will not be ideal for those who are extremely sensitive. Fourth, the eyebrows hairs will be drawn on in the direction of natural hair growth to mimic real eyebrow hairs. Hairs will be drawn on until gaps or areas of correction are sufficiently addressed. Finally the pigment sits on the skin for the last few minutes of the procedure to ensure the color penetrates. The entire appointment lasts approximately three hours.

What happens after the first microblading appointment?

For the first 5-7 days after your appointment your eyebrows will be extremely dark. After 7 days the intensity of the brow color will subside. Do not try to remove the color on your own or you will create scarring which cannot be corrected. You can only apply distilled/sterile water and balm on your brows for the first 7-10 days. After 30 days you will need to return for a second appointment. A second followup appointment is done one month after the first treatment. 10-30% of the microbladed eyebrow hairs will disappear after the first appointment because the body metabolizes some of the pigment. This can vary person to person.

How long do the results from microblading last?

After you skin has healed from the second appointment you will need a touch up every year. This an vary depending on if you have oily or dry skin. The oilier the skin the shorter the color lasts because your body metabolizes the ink quicker. Those with oily skin may need a touch up every 8 months to maintain the microbladed brows. The use of SPF protects your skin and may extend the life of the pigment. The use of anti-aging products such as retinol, acids, peels, and other exfoliants may shorten the life of the pigment with improper use. Pigment retention is determined by skin type, aftercare, immune system, age, medications used, and skin care products.
